Monday, February 8, 2010 - Netanyahu to press Moscow on Iran

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will travel to Moscow next Sunday for three days, his office announced on Sunday, for talks puma sneakers  expected to focus on getting Russia to back stepped-up sanctions against Iran. The visit, planned weeks ago, comes as the West is showing signs of growing impatience with what is starting to be seen throughout the US and Europe as little more than Iranian stalling tactics. US Defense Secretary Robert Gates called on Sunday for the international community to pressure Teheran into abandoning its nuclear program. Irans President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday ordered his atomic agency to significantly enrich the countrys stockpile of uranium, maintaining, however, that his country was also still willing to follow a UN plan to export its uranium for further enrichment. Refining uranium produces nuclear fuel for a power plant but if carried out far enough can create material for a weapon. German Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg responded to Ahmadinejads comments, saying, Todays statement shows that farce is being played out just like we have seen in the past, that the outstretched hand of the international community has not only not been taken but pushed back. Israeli officials said they have been puma shoes men  warning for months that as crunch time approaches, when a decision will have to be made on additional sanctions, Iran would play all kinds of games. Israel, the officials said, remained active behind the scenes, urging the international community not to back down, and to see through the various Iranian ploys. The issue is expected to dominate Netanyahus agenda in Moscow, where he will be making his first formal visit as prime minister. He went there in September for less than 24 hours, on a secret visit that was soon uncovered by the press. One Israeli government official said the chances of Jerusalem or anyone else convincing the Russians that the time has come in the UN Security Council to impose crippling sanctions were slim, and that the US would likely initiate sanctions outside the UN framework, along with like-minded states. Nevertheless, Washington, Israeli officials believe, will look for some kind of UN Security Council resolution calling for a fourth round of sanctions as a legal basis to take further, independent action. Speaking to reporters during a weeklong European tour, Gates said that if the international community will stand together and bring pressure on Iran, I believe there is still time for sanctions to work. Gates declined to be specific about the type of sanctions he had in mind, but reiterated that the focus should be on putting pressure on the government in Teheran and not  puma shoes women hurting the people.

Saturday, February 6, 2010 - Factbox: Democrats face battle for Senate majority

Public dissatisfaction puma sneakers  with the economy, unemployment and President Barack Obama's agenda helped fuel Brown's election in heavily Democratic Massachusetts last month, sending shock waves through Democratic circles. With big majorities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, Democrats are still heavily favored to retain control of both chambers in November but face growing worries about the extent of their possible election losses. To regain Senate control, Republicans must win 10 states held by Democrats while retaining all of their own seats, including several vulnerable ones. That will be difficult. Here are the 10 most vulnerable Democratic Senate seats in November: * NEVADA - Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid offers the country's biggest puma shoes men  target for Republicans, who accuse him of neglecting Nevada while waging national battles on behalf of Obama's agenda. Even after a heavy advertising blitz through the last three months of 2009, Reid trails potential Republican opponents by double digits in opinion polls in a state where the economy has nosedived. * ILLINOIS - Obama's former Senate seat, left vacant by the departure of short-term appointee Roland Burris, will be the focus of an expensive and brutal battle between Republican Congressman Mark Kirk and Democratic state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias. Republicans already have painted Giannoulias as a corrupt insider, while Democrats call Kirk a flip-flopper. * DELAWARE - Republican Congressman Mike Castle, one of the party's last House moderates and a popular fixture in state politics for more than 40 years, is a big favorite to win Vice President Joe Biden's old seat. Castle's candidacy was bolstered when Biden's son, Democratic state Attorney General Beau Biden, passed on the puma shoes women  race. * NORTH DAKOTA - The retirement of three-term Democratic incumbent Byron Dorgan put this Senate seat in play in a rural, conservative, Republican-leaning state. Democrats are still uncertain on their candidate, giving popular Republican Governor John Hoeven a clear path and a running head start.

Friday, February 5, 2010 - U.S. Widens Toyota Probe to Electronics

Separately, Japan's Puma shoes  transport ministry and U.S. highway safety officials said they are investigating complaints about problems with brakes in Toyota's Prius hybrid model. The Prius reports, and aggressive criticism of Toyota in Washington on Wednesday, battered Toyota's shares in heavy trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The damage spread to some of Toyota's key suppliers, as investors appeared to worry about longer-term harm to the sales of the auto maker and its tight corporate network. The Toyota recall has affected more than just the world's biggest car maker and its customers. In Japan, some industry executives worried Wednesday that Toyota's troubles will undermine the image of all Japanese cars overseas. The car industry could face a broader challenge because of Mr. LaHood's decision puma tennis shoes to have the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate claims that electromagnetic interference could cause electronic throttle systems such as those used in many Toyota models to malfunction. That in turn could raise questions about the industry's wholesale move to computerized systems, done in part to meet fuel-efficiency requirements. Electronic throttles replace mechanical links between the gas pedal and the throttle with electronic relays. The systems, used widely in the industry, reduce vehicle weight and fuel waste. NHTSA said it had begun a "fresh look" at both electronic throttle control systems and the possible effects of electromagnetic interference on them. The agency said it has no reason at this point to believe there are safety defects in the systems or in their ability to function when exposed to electromagnetic interference. Instead, it is "a background examination of the underlying technological issues," NHTSA said. As part of the probe, NHTSA will meet with manufacturers and suppliers to gain more understanding of their electronic throttle systems and ways in which these companies address any possible interference effects. NHTSA said cheap puma shoes  it also will meet with independent experts and people who have raised the possibility of EMI effects "in the media" to learn more about the basis of their opinions. Bob Waltz, Toyota's vice president of product quality and service support, said Monday that Toyota puts its vehicles through "extensive electromagnetic radiation testing" and has never been able to produce a failure related to microwaves or magnetic force. Henry Kowalski, a professor of mechanical engineering a Kettering University in Flint, Mich., said interference strong enough to disrupt a car's throttle "would have to be a huge electromagnetic field or the design of the electronics would have to be so poor that it would be happening more often." Questions about electronics could prove costly for the entire industry, said Neil De Koker, CEO of the Original Equipment Suppliers Association, a trade group for auto-parts makers. "You can test thousands of vehicles and not find anything," he puma shoes men  said.

Thursday, February 4, 2010 - If Meals Won Medals

is a terrific place to eat. It is diverse and exciting in its culinary offerings. But a simple puma sneakers breakfast taken on the pier outside the is an important stop for any wayfaring food pilgrim. The fish ruddy and cold-smoked, a taste of British Columbia for centuries, best purchased at Longliner Seafoods in the main shed is a sweet-sour-salty baseline from which we can measure the regions best meals. I was on the dock in late January, an advance man for the more than two million people organizers say will descend on Vancouver and its environs for the 2010 Winter Games, which run from Feb. 12 to 28. While in the city and its suburbs, I fed as if in danger of imminent execution. And I was able to confirm earlier reconnaissance: Vancouver is among the best eating towns in the history of the Winter Games. Not least of the reasons for this is that Vancouver, with more than two million residents, is among Bailey Button UGG  the largest metropolitan areas to host the Winter Games. There are a lot of people cooking here. And they are a mixed lot. Poised geographically and psychologically between Asia and Europe, running on reserves of Hong Kong cash and American corporate interests, on surpluses of immigration and dreams, Vancouver is what the novelist William Gibson, who lives here, calls radically multicultural. That is excellent for food. So are good ingredients. And Vancouver, which sticks like a mittened hand out into the uk ugg boots  cold waters of the Strait of Georgia, has these in reserve: marvelous agricultural products from the rich land of the Fraser River valley to its east, and the bounty of the western sea.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 - UPDATE 2-US Transport Sec: 'We're not finished with Toyota'

WASHINGTON, Feb 2 (Reuters) - A two-front U.S. government investigation of unintended acceleration UGG Ultra Short  in Toyota Motor Co vehicles intensified on Tuesday, despite the automaker's belief that it has solved the problem. "We're not finished with Toyota," Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in an e-mailed statement to Reuters about the response by the Japanese automaker and the government to consumer complaints that led to two recalls of 5.6 million cars and trucks in the United States in 2009 and in January. LaHood's comments referred to renewed efforts at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to recheck files from past investigations that found no problems with Toyota's electronic throttle control system. That technology was introduced more widely in the automaker's products  Puma shoes several years ago. An Obama administration official, who commented on the condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing, said safety regulators are continuing to look at the "possibility that electromagnetic interference" might somehow be causing problems with Toyota's throttle control systems. Such a finding could mean more serious problems for Toyota than it has experienced over the past several weeks. "It becomes a whole other ball game if it turns out to be an electronics issue," said Autoconomy analyst Erich Merkle. "Not only does it get more expensive to fix, but there's a trust factor between Toyota and its consumer." The first Toyota recall last fall involved floor mats that could loosen and jam under the accelerator pedal. The second, imposed on Jan. 21, involved accelerator pedals puma tennis shoes  that would not spring back as designed. Toyota is modifying gas pedals, redesigning floor mats and taking other steps to address the first recall. On Monday, it announced a mechanical fix for the "sticky pedal," which had resulted in a suspension of sales and production involving eight models, including big selling Camry and Corollas. Jim Lentz, president and chief operating officer of Toyota Motor Sales USA, told Reuters television on Monday that the company could have moved more quickly on floor mats. But he stressed Toyota is convinced the accelerator problems have nothing to do with  cheap puma shoes electronics.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010 - Exclusive window expires for group interested in Astros

A group that was given a 30-day negotiating window to make an offer to purchase the Houston Astros expired, meaning Drayton McLane will keep ownership of the low puma shoes club. McLane announced Monday that there was no official offer prior to the deadline of January 31. He was reportedly approached by a group that included former U.S. Olympic Committee executive director Harvey Schiller with an interest to buy the team. "As I've said all along, my family and I are not actively attempting to sell the Astros," McLane said. "Over the years, I have been approached many times by groups interested in discussing the possible purchase of the team, and I've always been open to listening. "This group was granted an exclusive negotiating window which expired yesterday (January 31), however, nothing materialized." McLane bought the Astros in 1993 for $117 million. The team has missed the playoffs the last four seasons, and in 2009 finished in fifth in the NL Central with a 74-88 record. McLane's asking price for the team is believed to be around $650 million. Monday, February 1, 2010 - Karzai urges Taliban talks before U.S. pullout

Karzai is hoping to launch a peace initiative this year, but Taliban fighters have long said they are willing to negotiate only if more than 110,000 foreign troops Puma shoes  in Afghanistan leave the country first. Karzai said the Taliban's insistence on a withdrawal of Western troops before any talks was "not a meaningful gesture." "The international community is here for success in defeat of terrorism, success in the defeat of extremism," Karzai told a news conference. "Therefore, they have to be satisfied that they have achieved their objective before they can leave." The Taliban should "return to their own country and work for peace in order for us to be able to have the U.S. and other forces to be able to have the freedom to go back home," he said. At a conference on Afghanistan in London last Thursday, Karzai called on militants to take part in a "loya jirga" -- or large assembly of elders -- as a start to peace talks. Karzai made clear on Sunday that he wants to move quickly. He said he would summon the jirga in less than six weeks, before another international conference he intends to host in Kabul, penciled in for some time in the next few months. Karzai has consistently puma UK  made overtures to the Taliban, and the West has been increasingly supportive in public of proposals to lure fighters down from the hills in a bid to end years of fighting in a war now into its ninth year. Washington is sending 30,000 more troops this year to try to turn the tide in the war and other nations are sending some 7,000. Washington also says it wants to begin drawing down its forces in mid-2011. Karzai said he will soon travel to Saudi Arabia, which has offered to help facilitate talks with the Taliban provided that the militants stop giving sanctuary to al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Saturday, January 30, 2010 - A defiant Tony Blair fronts Iraq War Inquiry

He told the Chilcott Inquiry into the Iraq War that given the same set of circumstances, he'd do it all again. Our Europe correspondent puma sneakers Philip Williams was at the inquiry. PHILIP WILLIAMS: This was not a contrite, embarrassed or even slightly chastened Tony Blair, but the confident slick lawyer politician that was not here to say sorry. He was here to defend to the end his decision to back George Bush all the way to Baghdad at a meeting with the US president in 2002. TONY BLAIR: What he took from that was exactly what he should have taken, which is that id it came to military action - because there was no way of dealing with this diplomatically - we will be with them. And that was absolutely clear, because as I'd set out publically - not privately - we had to confront this issue. It could be confronted by sanctions framework that was effective; it could be confronted by UN inspections or alternatively it would have to be confronted by force. PHILIP WILLIAMS: Tony Blair outlined his efforts to force Saddam Hussein to disclose all of his weapons of mass destruction puma shoes men  using the United Nations. That was against the instincts of the Americans. And while the WMD didn't actually exist, Tony Blair says his decision was right anyway. TONY BLAIR: This isn't about a lie or a conspiracy or a deceit or a deception; it's a decision, and the decision I had to take was given Saddam's history, given his use of chemical weapons, given the over 1 million people who's deaths he'd caused, given 10 years of breaking UN resolutions, could we take the risk of this man reconstituting his weapons? PHILIP WILLIAMS: Tony Blair admitted he wouldn't have gone to war without the legal backing from his Attorney General lord Goldsmith, who changed his earlier advise invasion was illegal without a second UN Resolution to an all clear days before the shooting began. When at the end he was asked if he had any regrets, well, there weren't any really. Some of the families of British soldiers who died in Iraq were in the room as Tony Blair gave his six hours of evidence. One called out "liar"; another "murderer". PHILIP WILLIAMS: And outside demonstrators from the Stop the war coalition like organiser Andrew Burgin were equally unimpressed. ANDREW BURGIN: I certainly do see him as a war criminal. He this week you had the execution of a guy called 'Chemical Ali' in Iraq, who was responsible for the Halabja massacre - he ordered that. Tony Blair is responsible for many, many, many times more; the nearly some estimates say nearly 1 million people  puma shoes women dies in Iraq. PHILIP WILLIAMS: Also at the demonstration Maxine Gentle. Her brother was a British soldier killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. She read this extract of a letter she wrote to then Prime Minister, Tony Blair. MAXINE GENTLE: My brother died at the age of 19 and what for? A war over oil and money; that's what I think the war is all about. Bailey Button UGG uk ugg boots UGG Ultra Short

The Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks each had two players picked as reserves Thursday for the Feb. 14 game at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. Rondo and Horford will both make their first All-Star appearances, as will Oklahoma City swingman Kevin Durant, Charlotte's Gerald Wallace, Memphis forward Zach Randolph, Chicago's Derrick Rose and Williams. Among those missing out were New York's David Lee and Clippers center Chris Kaman. Bosh, a Dallas native, is an All-Star for the fifth straight season. "Just to be able to be an All-Star year in and year out, that's a special feeling, but the fact that it's in Dallas is kind of a bittersweet thing," Bosh said before the Raptors faced the New York Knicks. "Sweet because I get to play in front of my home crowd and it's bitter because everybody wants tickets." Bosh, Pierce and Johnson are the only reserves on the Eastern Conference roster with All-Star game experience. Thursday, January 28, 2010 - Chronicle of a defeat foretold at Mitchells & Butlers

The event will doubtless come with all the unpredictable magic that accompanies annual gatherings of hundreds of small investors, many of them former employees who Puma shoes  recall the heyday of what was once the Bass brewing empire. But any vocal outpouring of support for Laffin from the floor will be scant consolation for the condemned man. Present in the role of executioner will be Lewis' lieutenant Richard McGuire, who carries in his back pocket ballot papers for 23% of shares in M&B, Britain's largest pub operator and the firm behind bar, nightclub and pub restaurant chains such as O'Neill's, Harvester, Nicholson's, Toby Carvery, Scream, Flares, All Bar One and Browns. Ousted from the board along with three others in a purge orchestrated by Laffin, there is no love lost between McGuire and the pub group's chairman. Weeks earlier, according to M&B's version of events, McGuire had threatened to vote Laffin off the board if he did not step down voluntarily from his then role as senior independent director. McGuire allegedly claimed to have told Laffin the threat would be supported by other powerful shareholders. McGuire is determined not to be cast as a figure lurking in the shadows and is understood to be prepared  puma shoes sale to take the microphone and answer any questions directed at him though he is likely to get a hostile reception. The Lewis camp strongly objects to attempts to cast them as conspirators. Nor are they even "rebel" or "activist" shareholders. Their interests are those of all ordinary shareholders, holding the board to account and pressing them to maximise value. Also addressing the meeting will be Ed Banks, a representative for Elpida, the investment vehicle of Lewis's friends JP McManus and John Magnier, Irish multimillionaires best known as racehorse owners. Until yesterday Elpida, which holds 17.5% of M&B shares, had maintained a public silence throughout the dispute despite allegations that it been plotting with Lewis to disrupt board decisions. In a letter to the M&B board, made public today, McManus and Magnier reveal not only their anger and opposition to Laffin but their belief that his dramatic boardroom purge two months ago was unlawful. "The original appointment to the board of Mr Laffin was unusual ... Wednesday, January 27, 2010 - Chilcot inquiry: Lawyers expose pressure to give green light for war

While then foreign secretary, was roundly dismissing the unanimous advice of his top lawyers that an invasion of would be illegal, officials in Downing Street were Puma shoes strongly resisting similar unwelcome advice, this time from Lord Goldsmith, the attorney general. Previously classified documents released today at the Chilcot inquiry offer a rare, perhaps unprecedented, insight into manoeuvring at the heart of government about one of the most serious issues to confront ministers C whether to go to war, and the lawfulness of it. The documents reveal Goldsmith expressed concern to Jonathan Powell, Blair's chief of staff, that he was said to have had an "optimistic view" of the legality of an invasion without fresh UN backing. Goldsmith made it clear that was not his view. That was in November 2002 when Goldsmith had been struggling to get his voice heard, the inquiry was told. "Was the attorney general discouraged from giving advice?" David Brummell, the former attorney's legal secretary was asked. "Yes," Brummell replied. When Blair finally asked Goldsmith for his formal legal advice, it came very late, on 7 March 2003, less than two weeks before the invasion. Goldsmith, who had originally shared the view of top Foreign Office lawyers that a fresh UN resolution was essential, now told Blair that an invasion without one would puma tennis shoes  still carry risks but the government might get away with it. But over the next 10 days Goldsmith was under pressure to come up with clear "unequivocal" advice, not least from Lord Boyce, chief of the defence staff. The inquiry heard how Brummell asked Downing Street for an assurance to give to the head of the armed forces that an invasion would indeed be lawful without a new UN resolution. Sir Roderic Lyne, an inquiry panel member, asked why an assessment that Iraq was still in breach of its disarmament obligations C a decision that would trigger an invasion C could be made by the prime minister when the legal advice up to then had been that only the UN security council could decide. Brummell replied: "The evidence had to be confirmed by Bailey Button UGG someone."

Tuesday, January 26, 2010 - Pope asks priests to become more Web savvy

In his for the Catholic Church's 2010 World Day for Social Communications, Pope Benedict XVI called on the ministry to use the latest technologies, such as Web sites and Puma shoes blogs, to preach the gospel and encourage a dialogue with their practitioners. Scheduled for May 16, the theme of the World Day will be "The Priest and Pastoral Ministry in a Digital World: New Media at the Service of the Word." In his message released Sunday, Pope Benedict told people that church communities have traditionally relied on modern media to open the lines of communication. And as the culture changes, the church needs to use the latest technologies, especially if it wants to reach younger people. "Priests are thus challenged to proclaim the gospel by employing the latest generation of audiovisual resources (images, videos, animated features, blogs, Web sites) which, alongside traditional means, can open up broad new vistas for dialogue, evangelization, and catechesis," said Pope Benedict in his message. The pope acknowledged that new technologies call on priests to become more savvy in their use, yet these technologies can foster deeper types of relationships even across vast distances. The pontiff also urged the ministry to not forget puma shoes women  its primary obligation and message. "Priests present in the world of digital communications should be less notable for their media savvy than for their priestly heart, their closeness to Christ," said Pope Benedict. Monday, January 25, 2010 - Haitian radio station becomes post-quake lifeline

Friday, January 22, 2010 - GlaxoSmithkline's Malaria Plan: Limit Profits, Open Labs

Drug companies get bashed for not doing enough for killer diseases like malaria that hit the developing world even as they spent hugely on lifestyle drugs for Bailey Button UGG  wealthy folks. Chief Executive Andrew Witty says he has a plan to fix the problem. Witty says he will take about a 5% profit above production costs on GlaxoSmithkline's experimental malaria vaccine, now in final stage trials in Africa. He doesn't have a final price yet--it depends on how many doses are produced--but he promised "most people will see this as a good low price." If the trials succeed, it would be the first vaccine ever for the devastating mosquito-borne disease. His concept is to make the drug available to poor kids, while still preserving some small profit margin so biotech companies will have an incentive to produce medicines for the developing world in the future. Witty hopes that wealthy nations will step up and form purchasing consortiums to help buy the vaccine for poorer nations. "We are trying to set the expectation that there will be some return" for creating medicines for poor Puma shoes countries, he said in an interview with Forbes. "If we come out and say it is 0% profit" for the malaria vaccine, there would be no incentive for companies to invest in neglected disease research in the future. Meanwhile, to jump-start research into drugs for malaria and other neglected diseases, Witty said Glaxo will up its labs to outside nonprofit collaborators. In one project, the company will work closely with Emory University chemists and to devise drugs for parasitic worm diseases and other nasty tropical bugs. In another, GSK will open up its lab in Tres Cantos, Spain to as many as 60 academic scientists who want to work on malaria or other developing-world ills. GSK will also make available detailed data on thousands of compounds that have showed some promise against malaria in preliminary tests. Thursday, January 21, 2010 - Hope Classic field brings 'conflicting event' issue to fore

The Hope, once a showcase event during the West Coast swing, had the second-weakest field among regular Tour events last year. It uk ugg boots  doesn't look like that standing will improve this year, which led to questions directed to Finchem about the releases. "The conflicting event releases we feel we've had in place now for 15, 20 years seem to be fine," Finchem said. "It's something we look at all the time. We look at it annually. We evaluate when we get a good number in any particular week. But at this time I don't see any change to the guidelines." On the other hand, Finchem hopes to have a title sponsor in place for the Hope in 2011. Chrysler had sponsored the Hope for 25 years before dropping out after it filed for bankruptcy in 2009. "It's a down economy so things take longer," Finchem said. "Everybody studies everything so it takes a while. It is a terrific experience for amateurs, and UGG Ultra Short it's performed well in the marketplace." In the event the Tour can't find a sponsor, Finchem said, "I don't see that happening, but in the event that we struggle with title sponsorship for another year because of the economy, we will figure out a way to bridge it and work with it for a period of time. But the way things are going now over the last 60 days, we have signed a lot of business, we have new sponsors, we have a lot of renewals things are moving back to the kind of normalcy we've seen over the last 12 years. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 - Brown Campaign Could Provide Blueprint for Future GOP Success

For GOP candidate Scott Brown to surge in Massachusetts, a state that hasn't sent a Republican to the Senate since 1972 and is represented entirely by Democrats inbailey button ugg  Congress, he must have done something right.  And the Republican Party should be taking notes, analysts say, to try to replicate his strategy in races across the country in a year when GOP candidates are thought to be starting out with the upper hand.  Win or lose, the Massachusetts state senator proved that a Republican can be competitive in the bluest of states or districts.  "Every Republican long shot in America -- for House seats, Senate seats, gubernatorial contests, is going to shout in unison - Remember Scott Brown," said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics.  Surely the GOP state senator benefited from some unique circumstances. Democrat Martha Coakley made missteps in the closing weeks of the race and has been criticized for not being pro-active enough in protecting what was once her substantial lead. The race also generated tremendous national interest because of Brown's ability to break the Democrats' supermajority should he win.  But Brown practiced a certain practical conservatism in his campaign which appealed to voters, not unlike Chris Christie in the race for New Jersey governor and Bob McDonnell in the race for Virginia governor.  By concentrating on fiscal issues and focusing his criticism on the national Obama administration agenda, Republicans said, Brown brought himself to the verge of an UGG Classic Argyle Knit  upset.  "The lesson I take away from Massachusetts, win or lose, and New Jersey and Virginia prior to that, is there is no penalty to be paid for opposing the Obama agenda," said GOPAC Chairman Frank Donatelli. "All three of these elections were nationalized."  He said GOP candidates have to stand for something and they can't just present themselves as the anti-Obama candidate. But he said Brown achieved this balance -- noting that Brown, an Army reservist and seasoned state legislator, hardly came out of nowhere.  "I'm not suggesting that somebody can just come out of the blue and do this. We have to recruit good candidates," Donatelli said. He predicted the Massachusetts race would be "rocket fuel" for those efforts, as well as for fundraising.  John Feehery, a Republican strategist and past aide to former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, said Brown surged because he appealed to fiscal conservative beliefs - not necessarily Republican Party talking points.  "Brown really did kind of UGG Ultra Short emphasize  fiscal issues, and that is a thing that unites the independents with the more traditional Republican base and the tea partiers," he said.

The Greek-owned tanker Maran Centaurus, laden with two million barrels of Saudi Arabian crude oil valued at about $156 million, had been held by the pirates since late November. That total is more than twice the average ransom paid in similar situations last year. The Centaurus had been hijacked about 700 miles northeast of Seychelles by pirates from Puntland, a semiautonomous region in northern Somalia. The rival factions then engaged in a gun battle on the tanker. The Puntland pirates threatened to blow up the tanker with rocket-propelled grenades if their hosts didn't back down, according to the men. At that point, the men say, clan heads intervened, fearing they might lose the ship and a huge ransom. The violence stopped and the ransom arrived by air. The Puntland pirates took their share, handed some over to their rivals, and departed in speedboats. Mr. Abdulle said a helicopter fired on the Puntland pirates' skiffs, wounding one pirate. The Xaradheere pirates fled the tanker. Maran Tankers Management Inc., which UGG Classic tall boots owns and operates the tanker didn't say who paid the ransom money. It said it wouldn't "provide any information which might in any way encourage further criminal acts of this kind."
