LaHood's comments referred to renewed efforts at the

advice, it came very late, on 7 March 2003, less than two weeks before the
invasion. Goldsmith, who had originally shared the view of top Foreign Office
lawyers that a fresh UN resolution was essential, now told Blair that an

But over the next 10 days Goldsmith was under pressure to
come up with clear "unequivocal" advice, not least from Lord Boyce,

Chief Executive Andrew Witty says he has a plan to fix the
problem. Witty says he will take about a 5% profit above production costs on
GlaxoSmithkline's experimental malaria vaccine, now in final stage trials in Africa. He doesn't have a final price yet--it depends on
how many doses are produced--but he promised "most people will see this as
a good low price." If the trials succeed, it would be the first vaccine
ever for the devastating mosquito-borne disease.
His concept is to make the drug available to poor kids,
while still preserving some small profit margin so biotech companies will have
an incentive to produce medicines for the developing world in the future. Witty
hopes that wealthy nations will step up and form purchasing consortiums to help
buy the vaccine for poorer nations.
"We are trying to set the expectation that there will
be some return" for creating medicines for poor Puma

"If we come out and say it is 0% profit" for the malaria vaccine,
there would be no incentive for companies to invest in neglected disease
research in the future.
Meanwhile, to jump-start research into drugs for malaria

nonprofit collaborators. In one project, the company will work closely with Emory University
chemists and to devise drugs for parasitic worm diseases and other nasty
tropical bugs. In another, GSK will open up its lab in Tres Cantos, Spain to as
many as 60 academic scientists who want to work on malaria or other
developing-world ills. GSK will also make available detailed data on thousands
of compounds that have showed some promise against malaria in preliminary

number in any particular week. But at this time I don't see any change to the
guidelines."
On the other
hand, Finchem hopes to have a title sponsor in place for the Hope in 2011. Chrysler had sponsored the Hope for 25
years before dropping out after it filed for bankruptcy in 2009.
"It's a
down economy so things take longer," Finchem said. "Everybody studies
everything so it takes a while. As long as the economy maintains where it is,
maybe picks up a little bit, I think the prospects are very good (for the
Hope). It is a terrific experience for amateurs, and UGG

but in the event that we struggle with title sponsorship for another year

For GOP candidate Scott Brown to surge in Massachusetts, a state that hasn't sent a
Republican to the Senate since 1972 and is represented entirely by Democrats inbailey

he must have done something right.
And the Republican Party should be taking notes, analysts
say, to try to replicate his strategy in races across the country in a year
when GOP candidates are thought to be starting out with the upper hand.
Win or lose, the Massachusetts
state senator proved that a Republican can be competitive in the bluest of
states or districts.
"Every Republican long shot in America -- for
House seats, Senate seats, gubernatorial contests, is going to shout in unison
- Remember Scott Brown," said Larry Sabato, director of the University of
Virginia Center for Politics.
Surely the GOP state senator benefited from some unique
circumstances. Democrat Martha Coakley made missteps in the closing weeks of
the race and has been criticized for not being pro-active enough in protecting
what was once her substantial lead. The race also generated tremendous national
interest because of Brown's ability to break the Democrats' supermajority
should he win.
But Brown practiced a certain practical conservatism in his
campaign which appealed to voters, not unlike Chris Christie in the race for New Jersey governor and Bob McDonnell in the race for Virginia governor.
By concentrating on fiscal issues and focusing his
criticism on the national Obama administration agenda, Republicans said, Brown
brought himself to the verge of an UGG

"The lesson I take away from Massachusetts,
win or lose, and New Jersey and Virginia prior to that,
is there is no penalty to be paid for opposing the Obama agenda," said

can't just present themselves as the anti-Obama candidate. But he said Brown

He predicted the Massachusetts
race would be "rocket fuel" for those efforts, as well as for
fundraising.
John Feehery, a Republican strategist and past aide to
former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, said Brown surged because he appealed to
fiscal conservative beliefs - not necessarily Republican Party talking
points.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010 - Pirates Release Oil Tanker And Squabble Over Spoils
Somali hijackers released a Greek-owned tanker and its
28-member crew in the Indian Ocean on Monday, after collecting a large

The Greek-owned tanker Maran Centaurus, laden with two
million barrels of Saudi Arabian crude oil valued at about $156 million, had
been held by the pirates since late November.
Two men who claimed to be among the pirates involved in the
attack said they had received $7 million, including $5.5 million dropped by
helicopter onto the tanker deck and an additional $1.5 million wired to a bank
account. That total is more than twice the average ransom paid in similar
situations last year.
The Centaurus had been hijacked about 700 miles northeast
of Seychelles by pirates
from Puntland, a semiautonomous region in northern Somalia. The pirates later docked
the tanker along the Somali coast in Xaradheere, a pirate town in central Somalia.
The Puntland crew promised to share part of the ransom with the pirates of
Xaradheere in exchange for docking the tanker there, according to ugg bailey

Puntland pirates.
The showdown between the two factions began offshore, when
the Puntland pirates were preparing to receive the ransom, according to pirates

fled the tanker.

largest retail chain, controls six hypermarkets and around 32 supermarkets in Venezuela.
Gonzalo Velasquez, Exito's director of communications, said
his company won't comment. He added France's Casino owns a majority

their people about $145 billion for 2009, a record sum that indicates how
