Fishing in Singapore with the Singapore Sea Brothers

Welcome To

Singapore Sea Brothers

S.S.B. Site Last Updated 08th of July 2009

This website is official by its owner copyright. Today we're busily talking about catches around Singapore which have clamerous through few decades ago since my granddad till myself about giant sting ray to little tamban. My name is Rizan and my bro is Imran. We've plan to build this website due to the many interest of Singaporeans nowadays loves fishing, almost shores and jetties are full every weekends. So here am i, typing this. I'm thanking to all great anglers like Ken's Fishing Haven, Kerry Shore Angler Fishing, Melvin Fishing, Conrad Fishing, etc, websites which gave great moves for me to start this very little website of mine! So this website we have name it Singapore Sea Brothers as both of us fish together once or twice a week to see the results and catches.

Various fishing spots in Singapore like Pasir Ris, Punggol, Changi, Tanah Merah, Tanjong Rhu, Marina South, Labrador Park & off course Bedok Jetty. Each spot gives a different species of fish like North-East more with Catfish & Fingermark Snapper, South-East with the Silvery fish & South-West with the Giant Trevally & Garoupas! So for the last 10 years, i've been fishing in Changi and catch lots of Catfish, Fingermark Snapper & Sea Bass aka Kim Bak Lor.

But now as time goes by im getting interested with the so call Bedok Jetty due to Silvery fishes and it landed in Good size & worst 74 KG Monster Brown Ray! Guess any bigger than that and i heard they say the biggest ray was 114 KG that was caught in the late 80's. But Bedok Jetty is still the most famous jetties around with its Fame Stingray record holder. As far as i'm concern, what fishing is all about? Fishing is one of S'pore most favourite  past times as fishing relaxes your mind thru the nature that have been done! Anyway i'm greatful to be in Singapore to fish with well known pro anglers. Thanks for all their contributions to me, especially Lor Kor & other members of the fisherman's friend.

Bend Rods, Tight Lines, Screaming Reels Forever Guys!

In the Early 80's MONSTEROUS King of the Sea

This humongous Brown Stingray (Himantura gerarrdi) was caught
in the early 80's where i was not born yet, it has maintain its reign of title till
today. This ray weighs up to a nearly 150 Kilograms! Nice for a table size huehuehue =D!
Really a dream come true. Bravo Well Done Pro Legend Fisherman of
renowned Bedok Jetty Legends.

Indiana Jones: @ the Kampong of Heaven

(Out Now in Cinema's Near you...!)

Indiana Jones ventures around the deep bushy east and land him a priceless gift. Giant Trevally (Caranx ignobilis) on a live prawns. Yes this predator can't resist the sweetness and the tenderness of the bait present.

And now his marvellous catch at the Kampong of Heaven. Kim Bak Lor (Lates calcarifer) on a live prawn bait.

Its rare to see someone hitting 3 on our shoreline just like that. You gotta ask our very own expertise Singapore Indiana Jones; Abang Zack!!!

"Imran get out from there, its slippery over there... Ok Daddy!!!" Imran you looks like faking your smile... Hehehe... All thank to his Dad for landing these marvellous Kims.

Operation

" Where the Hell is the Ray? " with Abang Isa of Team Nelayan Inc.

Over 30 plus Pasir-pasir for the next 24 hours of fishing on a choppy, hot, windy, cold and rain bashing trip.

We're looking for Monsters'.

The proper procedure.

The gathering before farewelling each other...

Arsenals' ready to be launched at certain marks.

Ministry of Defence approved and have authorised the launch with 4 or 5 commanding officers from all walks of life and sectors to join in this great hunt.

Abang! And BANG!!! Caught on my Digi Cam. Smile abit next time k Bang!

Bang! I hit the chart first unknown. A beautiful meaty Grouper suck up on my precious bait Pasir-pasir at its mercy of gulping it deep-throat.  Locally called Ikan Kerapu Bunga/Batik/Minyak etc. The Ang Moh whose now with NIMO call it Orange-spotted Grouper (Epinephelus coioides).

A couple of mugshots from this thugs'.

Man, she's waiting to be deep fried and marinate crispily with sweet & sour sauce. Yummy yum!!!

Thinking of how to penetrate deeply through these piece of land. Can our arsenals' reaches to that distance???

Rambo is in this call of duty. How delightful these could be.

Alamak!!! Goalkeeper lah Abang!!! Hahaha!!! For few seconds right after the second casting. I hit again the same fish. And both are similar in length but not that meaty like the first one.

Nice.

Look at that Pasir-pasir still in that mouth.

I love it.

As the night fall these fierce insect crawl-out hunting out of the darkness.

I was chicken-feet all day long until it appears crawling ahead of our sitting ground. Damn these Peruvian Giant Yellowleg Centipedes (Scolopendra gigantea) came out dozens on the tree barks moon bathing. Yikes!!!

Isa's turn. We're just having a hot discussion on Duri's and it appear tonight. Kuang kuang kuang!!!

Isa heading for another rod as the Duris' are getting busy on our baits.

There he goes... There he goes again... Taking on my bait... Kekekekeke... Its the Giant Sea Catfish (Plicofollis polystaphylodon).

After battling out for more than 20 hours. Our red cross came in to send some food supply and ammunitions. Thanks Pai for the red bean bun and that hot cup of hot tea. Now that really boost our morale.

We ended our battle with Johns' Snapper and snaps our line to a kilo or two Stingray on Isa's ligt tackle outfit. See you again in our next battlefront. Commander SSB & TNI signs off.

What a Night This is...!!!

When it gotta be hat trick to hit those two at the same time on my 15 ft and my Ugly stik.

Isn't she adorable to be one of those dinner for the Rays.

The ultimate bait getting ready to be cast over at a 100 meter mark.

Some miscy stuff i always collated for all my faithful viewers.

The schools of Coral Marine Catfishes swim out when it hit the dusk. Millions of them migrated under the Jetty structured as part of their migration from one stage to another.

Unaccounted for. They carry high venoms from their sharp spine. Angler's out there should beware of this.

More expected in the next throw off that large crab net.

The eerie Moon is up again for 3 consecutive night when i fish @ my Kampong. But tonight is different than any other nights like before. Something weird, strange and shocking happens.

What really happen here?

Ambulance by the shoreline? What the ....?

Enough with those pics. There's a beautiful Chinese lady in her 20's and in which was taller than me whom tries to commit suicide but apparently a fail attempt. She woke me up when i was resting from fishing. I saw the lady was half-way through in the sea next to the spot where i fished, as 2 of our brave Campers spotted that she's trying to end her life in the sea. She's all alone in that act. They helped her out from the strong tidal current of great East Coast sea. Struggling to pull her out as she keeps on trying her best to get drowned. Her condition was terribly upset and i guess she went insane over something as she keep on shouting and shouting all the vulgar language. Her mouth was full with sand. Her voice was getting on my nerves and her face was darn scary. Looks possessed by some kinda demon. Like the movie Exorcist acted by Linda Blair. I wonder that's why theres no Stingray tonight, kekekeke...! As these few nights i was fishing with Isa from Team Nelayan and Salleh who landed the 20 Kilos ray on da' blues recently. What a night.

She was later cuffed and tied with cloth to prevent from acting violently. Pity the paramedics and few PO's who attended these case. What the ....!!!

The Kampong of Heaven

Abang Salleh with over 20 Kilos of Stingray landed @ my Kampong. Same method, same baiting, same timing, same phase, same fighting and most to most and almost the same sized as always. A common Brown Stingray (Himantura gerrardi) landed on a hot day of saturday evening. It has taken Silver Sillago as bait or Sand Whiting. Have brought it to the shore to avoid line bursting before it finally landed. Enjoy the pics folks.

The Results for 3 Consecutive Days with LP's

From 300 grammes till 30 grammes left. They have natural life action and an in-built scent. And Live Prawns surely makes a better bait among baits.

Ikan Blukang; the Giant Sea Catfish. This is the trade of Singapore fishes around which is so common whereby there are lots of mangroves, swamps and rivers all over Singapore in the olden days even you can find them today. They're rich in histories. Try asking your Dad or Grandpa what usually do they caught and make dinner? I appreciate and have respect this species alot from time to time.

Deep-bodied Mojarra (Gerres erythrourus) or commonly called Ikan Kapas2 or Wa Bee locally. These fella loves sand worms.

Good size for the table-fare. Painted Sweetlips (Diagramma pictum) locally known as Ikan Kaci Bunga. Some say that this fish taste like Chicken? Is it true? Try catching one.

Another good eating fish caught from the shoreline. Its Javelin Grunter (Pomadasys kaakan) this time or Gerut2 locally called in Malay.

Close up for the beauty.

Hey i caught this bugger again...! Look at my hooks with that sand worms still dangles.

Its the ultimate small price this time. Its one of the famous and idolized fish that anyone ever dreamed off. Its the infamous Ikan Kurau (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) better known as the quite famous fish around, the Threadfin Salmon. Infamous as in, these are the fish who will never give up easily and tends to burst up your line with its sand-paper jaw. They love to eat Octopus tentacles and are addicted to big snood hooks as well. Goodluck, if you have caught a big one. You're a Champion!

Close-up to these bullet-nose sprinter.

Ho sey liao ar! Another tiny Grunter.

No that's double shot. I don't know how they did it? But surely they can't resist seeing the Live Prawns and they both just shove it on these maginificent double strikes. Congrats me.

Close up. The top one was called Harry Hotlips or Brown Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus gibbosus) or locally called Kaci Hitam or Kaci Karang and it looks like coral type species. And the bright silvery is a good eating fish called Bigeye Trevally (Caranx sexfasciatus) or locally called Ikan Sagai Putih. Both are seems greedy for LP's Till next time folks will keep ya updated with surprises.

I was expecting Adam Lambert to sweep the vote clean but Kris Allen sweeps it all.

Congratulations to both Adam & Kris. They're both WINNERS!

Congratulations Adam & Kris.

Woohoo!!!  The American Idol who overrun the Glam Rock God; Adam Lambert. Truly amazing.

The laid back style Superstar have won the Idol...

I think Ryan Seacrest mistakenly thought Allen was the boy next door and Adam was the liner boy next door... But take a look at Kriss' liner... He too have eye liners and maybe nailed polished...

I love those Liners; i do...

Thankfully Adam was not part of that violent movie "Clockwork Orange". Nice shot, love it.

I wish Adam Lambert was my Idol; American Idol...

Congratulations to our American Idol Kris Allen. Great laid-back vocals and i thank Adam Lambert so much for being so great so uniqque and so stylish till the finales'. Congratulations both of 'em.

The Surfcastmenship of the Singapore Sea Brothers

are back again for some ACTIONS to safe the Surfcasting World!

Me with the old Malay Man, the whole night long chit chatting and prompting the present world current situation on how we could overcome and foresee the matters arising that we face today in the real world. It was a great night for us with those Squid lamps. The feeling of Kampong-ness is there.

I felt warm with this welcome catch as i start to kicks off with the first Unga Tanda (Lutjanus johnii.) of the night that took my prawn right after my very first cast.

I feel so blessed with the welcome of Sir Johns' Snapper.

20 minutes later my rod went down again hard. And this time it was a Brown Stingray (Himantura gerrardi). It was a tiring night for me as my muscle just heats up for some action after a long time finger exercising in my office at Changi Airport.

And i still remember during the last May Day '08, i landed this goldie beauty of solid 5.3 Kilos, Golden Trevally (Gnathanodon speciosus) aka Dem-blang (in Malay) aka Boon-nang (in Hokkien/Chinese).

I have a big foot. My shoe sized are 13 U.S. & 12.5 U.K.!!! A close up on the caught Stingray.

It went silent after these two beautiful fish was brought up right upon the studied tide that i was aiming for and last but not least of course at the presentable baiting for these 2 catches. Enjoy the pics, cheers and happy fishing ALL!

My Labour Day Share On Cast Nets Specials

"That old man with his Umbrella". Photo's taken from the coastal waters in the deep east.

Looking distance away at the bottom platform.

The fantastic view of the olden structured built in the early 80's.

Look, what they're searching at those structures?

This modern Samsui women are actually China woman whose busy collecting Oysters from the giant built water pipe structures.

A close-up to what is in the blue tupperware that was called Oysters. I didn't know that Oysters are breeding by these structure until the foreigners comes in to hunt and eat them.

Another view of the other type of water pipe that was built in the late 80's just next to the giant oval-shaped water pipe.

The tide has risen to a level where all the 4 giant oval shape pipes are no longer visible to our eyes.

Its time for the Samsui Oyster Picker pack themselves up and head their way to the top of the platform for their safety precautions upon the rising incoming tide.

2 different shots were taken when the weather is ought to be stormy in a few minutes time with an unstoppable gusting winds from the north direction.

Here's another shot right after a few minutes from the first shots were taken. The weather seems to get wet in a couple of minutes with pile of rain clouds above readily to shower us.

Dusk falls in as bolts upon bolts of lightning struck the skies darkest nights in the east coast front.

I manage to shot a fierce ligthning thunderous bolts that hit somewhere in the far eastern of Singapore off Changi Coastal Road in those remote area of Rhu trees where it is still unurbanised for the public.

Few last great shots before i packs up and call it a day.

Our future city. Shots taken from the sea front.

I was there to do my regular net casting activity to kill off the boredom at home.

Nearly 300++ Tambans were caught on my cast net plus other fishes too.

Also in the 12-feet casting net.

Fresh Tamban anyone? We'll deep fry it and eat it with Nasi Lemak and that thundering delicious Sambal Tiger Prawns. Yummy!

S+C+S = South China Sea

A MONSTER to be roughly estimated by the boatmen himself, a 60 Kilos. Yes it might be it, cos' like i said before and i said it again. Common Brown Stingray may weighs up to 100 Kilos if it were taken from the size above, as for the Leopard Whipray (Himantura undulata) it may weigh less due to its lessen in meat than the thicknesses in the brown ones. A MONSTER hauled on a 3 day 2 night boating trip off South China Sea in which it hit on the second day of the successful boat-fishing trip on a small piece o whole Kelong Sotong to catch Ang Kuey or the Malabar Blood Red Crimson Snapper (Lutjanus erythropterus
). Congratulations on board Ah Jiang's vessel.

Also at the same spot with Giant Todaks' (Tylosorus crocodilus crocodilus).

A 10 Pounder Kurau Lift Up For This Year

Sets In A New Record For Our Waters

Congratulations to Con for this solid 10 pounder landings. It is a quality proven Blue Salmon Threadfin (Eleutheronema tetradactylon) aka Ikan Kurau Pahang landed in one of his many boat trips around our local waters. We usually ate them out of a salted fish. They are very expensive when salted and dried up. Once again bro Conrad Chung, congratulations on this amazing landings.

When You Are Having A Migrane, All You Need Is

A Panadol From Mr. Botak Migrane

Waduuuhhhh....! Migrane aku!!! LOL... For those of you who have not landed for this year. Nevermind, you can try your very best for next year. LOL. Bro Botak Migrane landed this outstanding catch in the wee hours of today. Congratulations bro. He was too excited until he burn up his thumb while engaging with this Monster. This Brown Stingray goes a whopping 20 Kilos solidly on the scale. This Canivore eat up a slice of freshly caught cast netted Squid meat. Once again congratulations to Bro Botak Migrane for landing this beauty.

p/s: I wonder on a bad tide like these and a cold rainy water like these the Stingray tend to take the bait. Btw this "female" Stingray is on the way to spawn herself. Because she let out her 2 babies on landing. Now that answers to the landing.

Henry's Biggest Fish; Battle It Out

Leopard Stingray (Dasyatis uarnak) caught on an offshore trip by our Brother Henry. In the middle of dusk and dawn, this giant took the bait and gave the boat rod a good two hard rod-bending strike and Henry straight away had a start of a fierce battle for only 15 minutes and it hit 22 Kilos on the scale upon the landing and weighted. Another awesome catch there Bro Henry. Looking forward to the same species. Hoping it'll be a Monster this time. LOL.
