Stability and Purity

There are 7 stages of stability. It goes from green, to yellow and finally to red each with 2 stages, which are full and half full. The last stage is nothing when it's destabilized. The more purity it has the slower this process will be. Also the more purity you have the easier it is to repair.

Collectors

Each gang has a small token that they carry to identify themselves. The only way to get ahold of one of these objects is to take out a gang member who has one (usually the higher chevrons). Collectors are the ones who want to see the ranks of a given gang disrupted. Collect that gang's tokens to prove to the collector that you have achieved this and trade them in for something useful.

Here are the locations and rewards of every collector

Exile hideouts

These are dangerous places as hostile forces congregate in them to plan criminal or terrorist activities. Some hideouts are the remains of previous incarnations of the matrix, which bluepills believe are the ruins from an earthquake. Each of these hostile forces has a boss who might drop useful loot. So the purpose of going down there is to get the loot and maybe gain some experience. You will need a strong mission team to take on a hideout with hostiles around your level.

Here are the locations and loot found at every exile hideout

RSI Modification Pills

NPCs in the hideouts (except for the NPCs in the boss area of the bottom floor) and the bosses themselves have a chance of dropping pills that permanently alter a component of your character's RSI when used. These pills can also be traded or sold. Different pill types can be found in different hideouts:

  • Mars Industrial Storage: Hair Color A (1-10, natural)
  • Casinos: Hair Style (1-19 female, 1-18 male)
  • Old Hammerville High: Hair Color B (11-20, natural)
  • Old Talbot Building: Hair Color C (21-32, artificial)
  • Abandoned Subway: Tattoos (1-8)
  • Rawlins Corner: Facial Color (1-8)
  • Ole Miller Projects: Facial Style (1-12 female, 1-13 male)
  • Orchid Public Bath: Skin Tone A (1-8)
  • White Lotus Hotel: Skin Tone B (9-16)
  • South Vauxton Apartments: Head A (1-10)
  • Hampton Green Hotel: Head B (11-20 female, 11-19 male)
  • Creston Heights Museum: Body Type (1-3)

Subways

The city has an efficient mass transportation system that can help you move around. The subways are safe and reliable, but not as fast as the hardline grid. Unlike hardlines, however, you can take the subway to a station you've never visited before. You will have to use the subways when visiting International and Downtown for the first time because there are no tagged hardlines to teleport too and no bridges leading you to them.

Here is a map of the subway network

Luggables

While in possession of a Luggable you will not be able to transport between districts or into the loading area. You can teleport to other districts or go to the loading area, but you will automatically drop all luggables if you do. If a Luggable is dropped into an active mission area the luggable will be destroyed. If it is destroyed you have to hunt around to find it again. You may only have one luggable of each type in your inventory at a time. While a luggable is in your possession you will always be flagged for PvP action, so be ready.

Text Formatting

This is the format you have to type your messages in to change the font and/or colour:

Colour > {c:colourcode} Your message {/c}

Bold > {b} Your message {/b}

Italics > {i} Your message {/i}

Where the 'colourcode' is the code of the colour you want your message to appear in and 'Your message' Is the message you want to send. The brackets and everything inside them will be invisible. Here are the codes for the basic colours:

White = FFFFFF

Black = 000000

Red = FF0000

Blue = 0000FF

Yellow = FFFF00

Pink = FF00FF

More colour codes can be found here

Useropts

My Computer -> C Drive -> Program files -> Monolith/SOE -> The Matrix Online

If you don't have a file called useropts, create one. To do that open a notepad file and save it as useropts.cfg (cfg is a configuration file so it effects the game) and now you can enter variables to customise your playing experience. Anything with # at the beginning are just notes and don't effect the game. Here are some examples:

# Bullet time at the end of every exchange:
RenderBulletTimeOnly = 1
AlwaysDoBulletTime = 1
AllowBulletTimeCamera = 0

# Disable the green "matrix code" effect when you jack in:
WR_MatrixView_Min_T = -1.0
WR_MatrixView_Max_T = 0.0

# World tint (green):
ScreenFilters_GreenShift_Color_1_R = 0
ScreenFilters_GreenShift_Color_1_G = 1
ScreenFilters_GreenShift_Color_1_B = 0
ScreenFilters_GreenShift_Color_0_R = 0
ScreenFilters_GreenShift_Color_0_G = 1
ScreenFilters_GreenShift_Color_0_B = 0

More variables can be found here

Launcher Commands

You can skip all or parts of the log in process by adding another line to the launcher path. Right click your launcher icon on your desktop -> Properties -> Shortcut tab -> Target. You will see this line: "C:Program FilesMonolith ProductionsThe Matrix Onlinelauncher.exe"

You may have SOE instead of Monolith which doesn't matter. After this line put 2 more double quotation marks after a space and choose from the following to add inside the new quotation marks:

-noeula

-user username <- put your username here

-pwd password <- put your password here

-char character name <- put your character name here

Note that if you add the -char command you will always log in with the character you specified. If you want to log in with another character you will have to remove this command or you could create separate launcher icons for each of your characters. When you use -char that character will always jack out from the last used hardline, bypassing the loading area and any point of auto jackout.

Example - "C:Program FilesMonolith ProductionsThe Matrix Onlinelauncher.exe" "-user ****** -pwd ****** -noeula"

The Machine Matrix

In the distant past, before war had destroyed the surface of the Earth, the Machines fled the civilization of humanity to found their own city called Zero One.

After the human race was defeated by the machines of Zero One, the machines performed experiments using cybernetic implants to connect human minds to a virtual reality called the Matrix.

A research program was created to find a stable simulation for the humans.

Version 1

The first matrix I designed was quite naturally perfect. It was a work of art. Flawless. Sublime. A triumph only equaled by its monumental failure.

The first version of the Matrix humans were hardwired into was designed as a perfect world, with no wars, plagues, or dangers of any sort. People, due to human nature, began to reject this simulated utopian reality. The human psyche could not deal with perfection. This rejection caused entire crops of humans to die.

Version 2

Instead of the perfection of the first, the second version of the Matrix simulated a world more in line with the varying grotesqueries of human nature, with wars, plagues and more hellish environments. This was caused by natural human anxieties warping the simulation and allowing deep-rooted fears to manifest. It has been alluded to by pre-version three programs like supernatural programs, which are remnants of this era of the Matrix.

Much to my frustration, this version was also a failure.

Version 3

Created in the same era as the first matrix this project also followed the philosophy that humans would be happy living in simpler times, and I attempted to to replicate a medieval Asian setting. Once the first matrix failed, this project was abandoned. The creation of a third version was suspended until a way of dealing with mankind's unpredictable nature could be found.

A program, which you humans call the Oracle stumbled upon a solution whereby nearly ninety-nine percent of the test subjects accepted the program provided they were given a choice - even if they were only aware of it at a near-unconscious level. While this solution worked, it was fundamentally flawed, creating the otherwise contradictory systemic anomaly, which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. If left unchecked it might threaten the system itself. Ergo, those who refused the program, while a minority, would constitute an escalating probability of disaster. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control.

The virtual reality world simulated by the Matrix consists primarily of a vast unnamed megacity which resembles human civilization around the turn of the 21st century (This time period was chosen because it is supposedly the pinnacle of human civilization). As this environment is practically indistinguishable from reality, the majority of humans connected to the Matrix are unaware of its true nature.

Version 4

After Neo secured a truce with the Machines a fourth version of the Matrix was created, in which any bluepill who wishes to leave the Matrix is allowed to do so under the terms of the truce (but only in Richland and new redpills are forbidden to go into restricted areas). After 2 years it was discovered that Zion had been building a new base deeper into the Earth's crust, which was being called 'New Zion'. This was in violation of the truce and therefore it was broken. Further awakenings were not allowed and I had increased Agent activity in restricted areas.

Cinematic 6.1 - A commando watches Seraph with Sati as she moves the sun in the sky. Anome plans a strike on a building but Caboclo suggests performing a rescue instead to get the repect of the bluepills. Seraph jumps on board to rescue her but he is overpowered and drops into the river with commandos. Meanwhile Agents dump the remaining vials into the water but one is left behind.

Chapter 7

Cinematic 7.1 - Three Redpills are watching the Bathary Row access node when suddenly Seraph rises out of the water. He stares at the one called MoonAvatar and beats her to the ground then he extracts code from her RSI. Seraph said she would revive but not remember the past few weeks. He also says not to fear him but there were more like her, then he hyperjumped away. One of the Redpills senses Seraph is insane then they are surrounded by Agents.

Cinematic 7.2 - The General is warned of Sentinels coming to attack his base in the real. The General says to launch the seekers when they get within 2 kilometres and that he's on his way. A drone detects the Sentinels and a launcher rises out of the ground. Missiles are fired and destroy some of the Sentinels. The surviving Sentinels land on the base and try to get inside using lasers but the General's Sentinels are above them and destroy them using EMP guns.

Cinematic 7.3 - The Machine Sentinels are on the final assault against the General's base in the real. They are intercepted by the General's Sentinels but enough get through to storm the base. The General admits there's too many from his base of operations in the matrix and commando programs retreat back into the matrix. A man watches a lone Sentinel from a TV in a dilapidated room crawling with robotic bugs. Suddenly Agents break into the base in the matrix and exchange fire with the commandos. The General escapes through the Aqueduct.

Chapter 8

Cinematic 8.1 - A Cypherite hovercraft is being tracked moving through a tunnel. A man in a control room is directing the hovercraft and says there is a cavern with a shaft in the bottom. The hovercraft discovers the cavern full of EMPs and the controller tells them to do a dead drop down the bottom but the hovercraft crew abort the mission and run. Their way out is blocked by a Zion hoverbarge carrying APUs but the crew captain says to confirm to Cryptos that Zion's new base is there just before the hovercraft and barge are deactivated by an EMP. The Architect contacts Agent Gray and tells him Zion has broken the truce and no further awakenings are allowed.

Cinematic 8.2 - The Machines find a Zion base in the Matrix and a gunfight ensues. There are casualties on both sides then Agents appear and it is over. Meanwhile in the real Sentinels are patrolling tunnels when they are destroyed by a rocket from a rocket launcher fired by 2 operatives hiding in the rock. Also in the desert of the real the General's Sentinels (now owned by the Merovingian) are flying over the Machine power lines with their searchlights pointing at them. The Merovingian watches them from a TV in Club Hel and is laughing.

Cinematic 8.3 - 2 Agents watch a computer executing a program, one of them says 'the virus is running'. A hovercraft is travelling through a tunnel when suddenly a swarm of Sentinels latch onto it and the crew can't resist, the Zion dock is destroyed and is swarming with Sentinels. The man watching the TV from 7.3 appears to be watching a recording of when Neo met Deus Ex Machina from the same room and says 'most interesting'. Persephone is reading out loud a poem (called 'Dolores: Our Lady of Pain') in the merovingian org construct library room with shelfs of books on human emotions. Suddenly the door opens and the Merovingian appears asking what she is doing, he doesn't seem to respect her feelings, she leaves the room.
Chapter 9

Cinematic 9.1 - In front of the Ascension monument door in Roger's Way, a wire-frame man leaking code appears out of nowhere. Bluepills scream as he walks down the Ascension monument and run. A radar screen tracks the movement of the man (labelled Unknown) coming down the Ascension monument while the bluepills scatter. He stops at the street and Agents surround him, one of them says 'Do not resist. You are required...'. The radar screens shows the man surrounded by Agents but suddenly a flash emanates from the man and the Agents are off the radar. Then man killed the Agents and walked north up the street and turned right.
